Adjusting hinges and drawers is very useful as it can fix a lot of common cabinet issues. Proper alteration can smoothen cabinet door opening, keep doors and surfaces flush, and tailor the cabinet components to your needs. Follow our guide to learn how to adjust hinges for different parts of European-style frameless cabinets, including single lift-up doors, bi-fold doors, typical cabinet doors and drawers.
Single Lift-Up Door
A single lift-up door is designed to stay in place after opening. The door should not be falling down abruptly.
To fix it, open the cabinet door and remove the cover plate on each side. Screw clockwise and you should see the inside component traveling upwards. This increases the tension allowing the door to stay in place.
When making the adjustment on the other side, ensure the components are adjusted to the same setting.
Bi-Fold Door
When installed properly, the bi-fold door should open smoothly and stay in place.
If it springs up to the ceiling immediately, the tension is set too high. You will need to remove the cover plate and adjust the hinge.
Screw counterclockwise. The component should be traveling downwards decreasing the tension.
Adjust the other side to the same setting.
Cabinet Door
Cabinet doors should be flushed with each other. If the distance between the gaps are uneven, the hinges need to be adjusted. They are adjustable in three different directions: horizontally, vertically, and in or out.
Horizontal: Turn the innermost screw to shift the door horizontally. Screwing it clockwise will reduce the gap.
Vertical: Turn these screws counterclockwise to loosen them until you are able to move the door up and down. Ensure both the top and bottom hinges are adjusted.
In or out: Adjust the rear screw if the door needs to be moved in or out. Turning it counterclockwise will shift the door away from the cabinet frame.
Drawer
You will be able to rearrange the drawer’s position by adjusting the few different screws on the side.
Adjusting the outer left screw allows the drawer to shift left or right.
Adjust the middle screw to adjust the drawer front up or down. You will notice the inside components shift up and down as well.
To take out the drawer, press both sides of the drawer slide clips and lift up. To put it back, simply align the drawer with the racks below and close it
If you would like to remove the drawer front, align the screwdriver with the hole guide it upwards. Repeat steps on the other side and remove the drawer front.
To create a flushed drawer front for drawers like this, twist the rod to accommodate the range of the drawer depth.
Solving cabinet issues may be easier than you think. When you try to fix a cabinet problem, adjusting hinges might be a good way to start.
